Elie Holiday Park - voted best visitor attraction in Fife
Abbeyford Leisure’s Elie Holiday Park at Shell Bay has been named as the Best Visitor Attraction in Fife as voted by Kingdom FM listeners. The prestigious tourism award was presented at the radio station’s eighth annual Local Hero Awards ceremony in Glenrothes on Friday, with Craigtoun Country Park, Muddy Boots and Inchcolm Abbey placed as runners-up.
Sales and Marketing Manager for Abbeyford Leisure, Peter Davies, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won this fantastic award. We’ve invested significantly within Elie Holiday Park over recent years and it’s rewarding to see our holiday home owners, guests and visitors enjoy, what is without doubt, one of Fife’s most scenic and breathtaking hidden gems.
“Inspired by the local area’s connection to Robinson Crusoe, one of our first projects at Elie Holiday Park was to recreate the magic of the sailor’s adventures by constructing the UK’s only Robinson Crusoe Adventure Park. Surrounded by palm trees the ship takes the form of a two-masted galleon linked to a fantasy desert island and reflects the area’s heritage with famous Lower Largo sailor, Alexander Selkirk – the original castaway that inspired Daniel Defoe to pen the Robinson Crusoe story.
“But it doesn’t end there. Our fantastic range of new-for-2015 Castaway holiday homes have proved to be particularly popular too. Nestled behind the sand dunes at Shell Bay each comes complete with its own covered veranda and are just a stone's throw away from the beach and Fife Coastal Path.
“We engage with the local community and this year teamed-up with Elie Watersports and Anstruther Golf Club, and hundreds of children have enjoyed football coaching sessions at the park via our links with St Andrews United and A.M. Soccer. We’re also a favoured attraction for several Duke of Edinburgh Award groups and school parties.”
