Birdwatching

Birdwatching

From sand martins and eiders to red-breasted guillemots and the rare surf-scoter, the East Neuk is a twitcher’s paradise. Curlew, red shank and oystercatchers are regular visitors to Elie, St Andrews and St Monans Holiday Parks and others, such as puffin and artic terns can be viewed by taking an exhilarating boat trip from nearby Anstruther to the Isle of May. The May Princess sails daily on the tide from Anstruther Harbour to The Isle of May between April and September. The crossing takes about 1 hour with 2-3 hours spent ashore. In the early summer the seacliffs are covered with breeding Kittiwakes, Razorbills, Guillemots and Shags. Inland, thousands of burrow nesting Puffins can be seen and Eider Duck are in abundance.
